I've just learned from rookie running back Jalen Parmele that he's being signed off the Dolphins' practice squad to the Baltimore Ravens' active roster. The Ravens' running backs got banged up last night against Washington as both Willis McGahee and Ray Rice left the game with injuries.
A sixth-round pick out of Toledo, Parmele (5-11, 220) began the season on the Dolphins' active roster but did not appear in a game. He was waived in late September when tight end Joe Haynos was signed. The Dolphins subsequently re-signed Parmele to the practice squad.
The Dolphins now have six practice squad players, leaving them two open spots to fill. Linebacker Rob Ninkovich was signed off the practice squad by the New Orleans Saints last week.
I'll have a more detailed article once the transaction becomes official, but I just wanted to post the update as quickly as possible. It's a shame to see Parmele go and he could be back later, but I'm glad he's getting a better opportunity to play and make significantly more cash! (Practice squad players make around $84,000 a year while the active roster minimum salary for a rookie is $295,000!)
