The Miami Dolphins have made the second addition to their 2009 coach staff, naming Darren Rizzi as Assistant Special Teams Coach. Rizzi joins offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo as one of two new faces on the staff.
A New Jersey native, Rizzi walked on to the football team at the University of Rhode Island in 1988 and went on to catching 160 passes for 2,426 yards and 15 touchdowns in his collegiate career.
Rizzi most recently spent a season as the head coach at Rhode Island after working as the special teams coach at Rutgers from 2002 to 2007.
Rizzi worked as an assistant at the University of New Haven from 1994 to 1997 under then-head coach Tony Sparano. He succeeded Sparano as head coach at New Haven and held the title for three seasons.
In Miami, Rizzi will work under special teams coordinator John Bonamego. He replaces special teams assistant Steve Hoffman, who was added to Todd Haley's staff in Kansas City earlier this month.
