Dolphins Release DE Vonnie Holliday

I received some flack for saying I'd release Vonnie Holliday in my 2009 offseason plan, but it seems the Dolphins agreed. According the Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have informed Holliday he will be released after the veteran refused to take a pay cut.

Though I'm a huge Holliday fan and I'm disappointed to say him go, I can't say I'm surprised and I certainly understand the move. While still a productive player, a team leader and a great veteran mentor, Holliday's 2009 salary simply wasn't worth keeping with so much depth and talent at the position.

With the release of Holliday, Randy Starks and Phillip Merling look to see more playing time opposite Kendall Langford on the defensive line. The team also hopes for 2008 seventh-rounder Lionel Dotson to push for playing time in 2009.
