Miami Dolphins Alumni Update: July 2012

These are all the pro football transactions involving for Miami Dolphins players in July 2012:
  • July 2 — The Denver Broncos re-signed placekicker Matt Prater to a four-year contract. Prater was a camp leg for the Dolphins in 2007, but lost out to Jay Feely.
  • July 5 — The Toronto Argonauts (CFL) released running back Gerald Riggs, Jr. Riggs attended training camp with the Dolphins in 2006 after going undrafted out of Tennessee.
  • July 5 — The Tampa Bay Storm (AFL) placed offensive lineman/defensive lineman Julius Wilson on league suspension. Wilson split the 2007 season between the Dolphins' practice squad and active roster. He was waived by the team in July 2008 after failing his conditioning test.
  • July 6 — The Toronto Argonauts (CFL) signed wide receiver Chandler Williams to a contract. Williams spent the 2007 season on the Dolphins' practice squad, but was waived the following offseason.
  • July 11 — The Utah Blaze (AFL) activated offensive lineman Terence Brown from league suspension and placed him on reassignment. Brown signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of BYU in May 2012, only to be released in June.
  • July 12 — The Milwaukee Mustangs (AFL) activated defensive back A. J. Wallace from injured reserve and placed him on team suspension. Wallace signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2010, but left the team in August.
  • July 12 — The New Orleans VooDoo (AFL) placed defensive lineman Brian Johnston on injured reserve. Johnson spent part of the 2010 offseason with the Dolphins.
  • July 17 — The Washington Redskins placed running back Tristan Davis on the Active/PUP list. Davis was a member of the Dolphins' practice squad for part of the 2009 season and attended training camp with the team in 2010.
  •  July 23 — The Chicago Bears signed running back Lorenzo Booker to a contract. The Dolphins' third-round pick in 2007, Booker rushed for 125 yards on a 4.5-yard average and caught 28 passes for 237 yards as a rookie. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2008 offseason for a fourth-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
  • July 25 — The Buffalo Bills terminated the contract of defensive lineman Lionel Dotson with a non-football injury. A seventh-round pick of the Dolphins in 2008, Dotson appeared in four games over his first two seasons and was briefly on the team's practice squad in 2010.
  • July 25 — The Green Bay Packers placed defensive tackle Johnny Jones on the Active/PUP list. Jones attended training camp with the Dolphins in 2011 after going undrafted out of Marshall. 
  • July 25 — The Washington Redskins placed offensive lineman Nevin McCaskill on waivers. McCaskill was briefly on the Dolphins' practice squad during the 2009 season.
  • July 25 — The Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL) signed wide receiver Brooks Foster to contract.
  • July 26 — The Detroit Lions placed cornerback Ross Weaver on waivers. Weaver attended training camp with the Dolphins in 2010 after going undrafted out of Michigan State.
  • July 27 — The Carolina Panthers signed linebacker David Nixon. Nixon spent the 2011 preseason with the Dolphins but was released during final cuts.
  • July 27 — The Minnesota Vikings placed tight end Mickey Shuler on the Active/Non-Football Injury list. Shuler was claimed off waivers from the Vikings by the Dolphins on Sept. 23, 2010 and caught two passes in six games that season. He was waived during final cuts in 2011.
  • July 28 — The Minnesota Vikings activated tight end Mickey Shuler from the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
  • July 29 — The Oakland Raiders placed defensive tackle Travis Ivey on the Active/Non-Football Injury list. Ivey attended training camp with the Dolphins in 2010 after going undrafted out of Maryland.
  • July 29 — The San Diego Chargers signed quarterback Kevin O'Connell to a contract. O'Connell played for the Dolphins during the 2011 preseason but was waived during final cuts.
  • July 31 — The Detroit Lions re-signed cornerback Ross Weaver to a contract.
  • July 31 — The NFL suspended linebacker Erik Walden (Packers) for one game for violation of the personal contact policy. Walden spent most of the 2008 and 2009 seasons as well as part of the 2010 season with the Dolphins as a backup linebacker and special-teamer, recording 13 tackles in 19 games.
  • July 31 — The Kansas City Chiefs signed offensive tackle Ray Willis to a contract. Willis played for the Dolphins during the 2011 preseason but was waived during final cuts.
