Updates on a few former Phins

Well things are pretty slow right now, so in the interest of having something new up on the blog I've decided to update you guys on the movement of a few former Dolphins. I'm also considering putting together a very preliminary prediction at the 53-man roster based on the current roster, but for now here are the updates.

OT Cory Lekkerkerker signed with the Dallas Cowboys on May 14. Lekkerkerker spent two seasons with the Chargers from 2005 to 2006, and was then claimed off waivers by the Dolphins (led by his former Chargers OC Cam Cameron) prior to the 2007 season. He appeared in 11 games for the Dolphins this past season with two starts, seeing time at both tackle and guard. Lekkerkerker will have his hands full in camp and is a long shot to make the Cowboys.

After one season with the Dolphins, defensive back Jereme Perry re-signed with the Cleveland Browns on May 15. Perry spent his rookie season with the Browns in 2006 but failed to make the team last season. He was picked up by the Dolphins in early November and went on to appear in four games, recording three tackles. He was waived by the team on April 25, 2008. Despite his versatility as a corner and safety, Perry is unlikely to make the Browns in 2008.

Marcel Reece, an undrafted receiver out of Washington who spent less than a week with the Dolphins this month, was picked up by the Oakland Raiders on May 13. Reece is one of 12 receivers currently on the Raiders roster and has practically no chance at making the team.

Wide receiver Kerry Reed was signed by the Baltimore Ravens on May 1. No surprise here, as current Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron signed Reed as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State one year ago. Reed split last season between the Dolphins' practice squad and active roster, appearing on one game. He was re-signed this past January, but was waived on April 25. Reed will have to battle to make the Ravens' squad in 2008, though he has a better shot there than he would have in Miami.

Safety Chris Crocker signed

The Dolphins signed former Browns and Falcons safety Chris Crocker to a one-year contract worth $1.15 million. He is likely to compete for the starting free safety job in Miami's secondary. For more info and analysis, watch the following video. Enjoy!

Safety Chris Crocker signed...handful of analysis videos up by tomorrow

First off, the Dolphins have signed former Browns and Falcons safety Chris Crocker to one-year deal. The more competition in the Dolphins' secondary, the better in my mind.

The Crocker signing will be just one of six roster moves I'll be analyzing by tomorrow as I catch back up on my content, so be sure to check back today and tomorrow for that!

Dolphins re-sign CB Michael Lehan

Dolphins management has made their first move to retain a player held over from the previous regime, re-signing unrestricted free agent cornerback Michael Lehan to a three-year deal. Watch the following video for more info on Lehan and analysis on the move. Enjoy!

Alabi claimed off waivers by Chiefs

Just two days after the Dolphins parted ways with nine players, the first of that group has landed elsewhere. The Kansas City Chiefs were awarded offensive tackle Anthony Alabi off waivers on Wednesday.

Three other teams - the Broncos, Browns and Texans - also put in claims for Alabi. Coincidentally, Alabi was drafted by the Dolphins with a pick acquired in the trade that sent Patrick Surtain to Kansas City. He will keep his No. 79 with the Chiefs.

Alabi was originally drafted by the Nick Saban-led Dolphins out of TCU in 2005. He did not play his rookie season, and has since played in 16 games (starting none) in his three-year career as a backup tackle.
